Julie Christina was attending a conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Universal Studios. She went into a telephone booth to call her office and the seat on the booth collapsed, causing her to strike her back on portions of the metal seat and telephone framework. Over the next several months, Ms. Christina developed Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), a rare disorder which causes intractable pain.
