The MVAT Foundation
Biren Law Group Supports the Military Veterans Appreciation Trust (MVAT) Foundation
As a personal injury law firm that represents military veterans throughout Southern California, Biren Law Group is passionate about supporting vets and their families in all ways we can. That means not only helping them seek a recovery of special damages in their personal injury cases when new injuries make service-connected conditions and challenges worse, but also supporting organizations like the Military and Veterans Appreciation Trust (MVAT) Foundation.
Founded in 2007 by a group of locally-based Los Angeles volunteers who strongly believed service members and veterans need and deserve greater support than they often receive, the MVAT Foundation is dedicated to providing a range of resources and services to veterans and their families, and to raising awareness about the issues they face in their civilian lives.
Through programs such as the Foundation’s Heroes Linked, MVAT also provides vets, transitioning service members, and military spouses with mentoring from professionals across the country who can help them succeed in their post-military careers. MVAT also regularly hosts charitable fundraising events, including the MVAT Foundation Golf and Tennis Classic held annually in Los Angeles, to support numerous charities and organizations that help veterans in need, including Habitat for Heroes, New Directions for Veterans, JVS SoCal Veterans First, and many more.

Biren Law Group: Our Involvement
Our involvement with the MVAT Foundation stems from our firm’s Founding Partner Matthew B.F. Biren and his personal friendships with MVAT Chairman Don Schwarz and Executive Director James Colbert, as well as his family’s connections with former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette, who was involved in the capture of Bin Laden. After hosting an event honoring Mr. Bissonnette, Matt found that an on-going relationship with MVAT could help reach more people, raise awareness about veterans’ needs, and further organization’s mission to help our service members and their families.
Today, Matt, his family, and our legal team at Biren Law Group are actively involved in hosting regular non-profit events where guest speakers, experts, physicians, and others discuss subjects relating to veterans, issues such as PTSD and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and the struggles vets face as they assimilate into civilian life after serving in the armed forces – especially when they have service-connected conditions or injuries. These events, including those hosted at Matt’s own home, have succeeded in introducing MVAT and its work to people who otherwise might never have been exposed to learning about the trials and tribulations of wounded warriors, and to helping raise proceeds and donations for the military charity.
Over the years, Matt has hosted events featuring not only Matt Bissonnette, but also individuals such as David Fridovich, a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General and Green Beret who served as Deputy Commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, and Dr. Chrisanne Gordon, a physician and traumatic brain injury survivor. These speakers and others involved in the MVAT events hosted by Matt and his family provide a wealth of knowledge regarding the lives of military veterans and those struggling with PTSD and TBI, and help spark interest in supporting a great and worthy cause.
